WHAT ON EARTH IS DECIEM?

We are a collective of disrupters and doers, of creatives and scientists, with a mission to reimagine the world of beauty.

Since inception, our vertically integrated structure, including our own laboratories, manufacturing, retail stores, and brand infrastructure, have enabled us to rapidly identify opportunities and deliver quality. Home to The Ordinary, NIOD, AVESTAN, and other emerging brands, our goal is to create with purpose. We were founded on the principle of doing everything that others don’t. Because normal gets you nowhere.

We are DECIEM, The Abnormal Beauty Company.

We are growing rapidly and we’re looking for someone who shares this vision and wants to grow with us!

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Scientific Program Development to serve as a strategic operational partner to the Global Scientific Program Director. In this pivotal role, you will act as a deputy and architect across our entire brand portfolio—including The Ordinary, NIOD, and Incubator Brands.

This is not a traditional project management role. We are looking for a hybrid thinker: someone who can navigate the complex early stages of innovation (turning abstract ideas into concrete scientific concepts) while simultaneously serving as a central operational pillar for the wider department—unifying processes, managing critical data, and crafting the strategic narrative for leadership.

This position is based out of our Head Office, located in Liberty Village and offers a hybrid work schedule.

PAY RANGE

The anticipated base salary for this position is $100,000 to $110,000 CAD

Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location.

WHAT YOU’D BE DOING IN THIS ROLE

  • Translate & Create: Partner effectively with Product Marketing/Brands and the Director to translate abstract briefs into actionable scientific requirements for the lab. You will be instrumental in defining what we make before we make it.
  • Cross-Portfolio Scope: Lead scientific concept development across the full spectrum of the business, from high-volume launches for The Ordinary to complex, novel technologies for NIOD and Incubator brands.
  • Feasibility & Risk: Assess early-stage feasibility for new concepts, identifying technical constraints and proposing creative scientific solutions to keep innovation moving.
  • Departmental Unification: Champion internal process improvements to unify the wider scientific function (R&D, Clinical, Regulatory). You will break down silos to ensure all departments move as one cohesive unit.
  • Strategic Communications: Support the Director in crafting high-level "Scientific Pillar" decks and strategic presentations for Executive Leadership. You must be able to synthesize complex data into a compelling business narrative.
  • Data & Visibility: Own and manage the Scientific Costing Dashboard and resource tracking tools. You will aggregate data from all scientific functions to drive operational visibility, efficiency, and budget adherence.
  • Timeline Navigation & Risk Management: Proactively navigate project timelines across cross-functional teams (Applied Research, R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, Scientific Communications, Brands). You are responsible for flagging risks early and implementing mitigation measures to prevent delays.
  • Acceleration & Downstream Impact: Actively identify opportunities to accelerate programs by analyzing downstream implications and product propositions. You will propose trade-offs to the Director to balance speed-to-market with scientific rigor.
  • Agile Troubleshooting: Manage the “concept-to-scaleup” lifecycle, coordinating daily with Scientific departments to resolve roadblocks. You will independently solve operational hurdles and know exactly when to escalate strategic risks.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Serve as the central node of communication for key innovation projects, ensuring that Brand expectations are constantly aligned with evolving scientific results.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Science (Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry) is required. Cosmetic Science background is highly preferred.
  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in R&D, Innovation Management, or Technical Program Management within the Beauty, Personal Care, or CPG industries.
  • Industry Knowledge: A deep understanding of the personal care market (skincare preferred), active ingredients, and the product development lifecycle (from brief to scale-up).
  • Strong proficiency in building strategic presentations (Google Slides/PowerPoint) is essential.
  • Advanced ability in Excel/Data visualization for dashboard management.
